I just put a new short block in my WD45 and fired it for the first time. The oil pressure is alarmingly low. 9 lbs.I checked the lines and pulled the valve cover, and oil was flowing well. I pulled the new guage off and reinstalled the old one. It reads at low line of normal. The pump presure was o.k. before the engine change. Checked the buy pass plug and installed a washer and gained 1 lbs. Break in oil is 30 wt. Any sugestions? Thanks in advance. Andy.

I had a friend who has a model C and it had low oil pressure. He talked to several people with many ideas of what it might be. We were looking over the parts book and some parts off a couple tractors I parted out for ideas. We found out what it was. The filter had a metal stem that the filter goes on before it is screwed down. The stem was broken on his filter base. Put on a new base and the presure was what it should be. Yours is higher than his was to strar with. His was only about 5 lbs. Sometimes it is something you can easily overlook that is the problem.

Did you do the build or is it from somebody like CT Farm & Country? If it holds 9 psi when its hot, thats not too far off from what its supposed to be. 12 to 15 psi is normal. You might check the bearing clearance with plastigauge. .001 clearance would be ideal. No more than .002. Hope this helps, Brian.

You might have cam bearings that are too loose. The oil goes from the pump to the cam shaft to the main and rod bearings and if the cam bearings are too loose you will lose oil pressure here. If the engine was rebuilt without replaceing the cam bearings this could be the problem.
