I have a 180 Diesel that this spring when I put it under load(bush hogging) after spring clean up where it idled quite a bit it started spewing what looked like oil or at least a liquid out of the muffler which in turn ran down the block and made quite a mess. It does not show any oil usage so I attributed it to a wet stack and just the carbon running down the block. Now this summer while picking rocks it does this unless I am running above 1400rpm's. Could this be unburned fuel? and at the higher RPM's it is burning this unburned fuel instead of dumping it out the exhaust. I am kind of at a loss and would like to try to figure it out and will look forward to any thoughts on how I can go about diagnosing the problem. I have cleaned the settlement bowl(which was empty of anything other than diesel fuel) and changed the fuel filter but to no avail. Thanks in advance.

I agree; it sounds like unburned fuel due to the engine not being worked hard enough to get it good and hot. Diesels run their best when they are good and hot. You need to get it out and really work it. You might also make sure you don't have a thermostat that is stuck open.

sounds like unburned fuel to me from running a engine too cold and not enough work behund it to get hot enough.
