I have recently purchased a 1948 A/C WD that needs new brakes. I am having a lot of trouble removing the pin holding the bottom of the brake shoes together . Any suggestions? I will also need to replace one of the brake drums due to the amount of wear. Where can I get replacement brake shoes and drums?

The 3/4" pins that hold the shoes in are case hardened. If all else fails, grind a little off of the end of the pin to get through the hard surface. Then drill and tap for a 3/8 stud. Find a good grade bolt, or stud, at least grade 5, eight is better. Then use a socket and washers and with the bolt or stud in the pin, pull it out. Be very careful not to break the tap in the pin. Drill as straight as you can as near the center as you can too.

You may be able to get the parts from a dealer, or the catalogs have at least the linings.
