I have to first say that I know absolutely NOTHING about tractors so please forgive my ignorance. My father had a tractor that was in the garage in a house he bought. It is in great running condition, but it is old. He has no use for it now that he has finished the house & land around it, and he is interested in selling it. All he knows about it, he told me, is that it is a WC 45. From my searches I am wondering if it is a WD 45 since that is all I can find, and that would be an Allis-chalmers. What I'm wondering is, does anyone know where I need to look to find out what year and make of tractor it is? Thanks.

Keep looking, it's there,...and as Steve mentions, you need the serial number to properly identify it. What part of the country are you located?

I'm located in Central Wisconsin - I'll have to go out to my Dad's place and have a look at this thing & see if I can find it. Thanks!

Hali, AC made a WC, a WD, and a WD45. To most of us they look about the same. You need one of the experts to tell apart. Look on the rear axle around the center pumpkin, or on the left axle tube around the brake cover area. You are looking for the two letters and a few numbers after that. If you dont find anything, one of the other guys can give you additional visual differences to tell them apart. You need this serial number to get the age, year made.

My Dad looked all over the rear end of the thing and all he came up with was this:

Tinken R 6200B288M

I know this is not the serial number, where else should we be looking? He also told me they only know what model tractor it is because they saw one that looked like theirs at a tractor show. So after finding out that the models look very similar, we are not sure what we have. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If it is a WD or a WD45 the number will be on the rear of the differential housing, left of center, on the machined area behind the left brake housing. The left brake housing is the sheet metal cover on top of the housing, the seat bolts to the right housing. If it is a WC the number will be on the rear of the differential which will look round kinda like a truck differential. WDs and WD45s had foot brakes, WCs had hand brake levers. A WC doesn't have a second hand operated clutch, WDs and 45s do, the lever on the right under the steering wheel. This should get you started. Engine numbers except for early WCs were on the left under the manifold, behind the carb. Early WC had it on the back of the block I think.
