Is the 226 cid 4 cyl in a WD45 the same engine as the 226 cid 4 cyl in a D17? If not, what are the differences? Could the engines be interchanged? What parts in the engine could/couldn't be interchanged?
Thanks,
J.R.G.

The motors will interchange with some minor changes. The steering universal will hit the oil line on the motor. A minor adjustment with a hammer will take care of that. If you use the Gleaner engine the water pump will not work. You will have to bore out the holes in the WD water pump and use it. Then put shim behind the pully to get everything to line up. Most all the parts will interchange except the crank. If you use the 17 cam, you must also use the oil pump.(different number of teeth on pump). The 17 engine is a better engine with all the improvements. The full filter oil system is one thing I really like. The bypass system on the 45 is next to nothing.
Hope this helps
Hud

They are basically the same engine, but crankshafts won't swap, I'm not sure on cams. Rods probably won't, cause the D series used a larger diameter crank pin. The engine as a whole can be swaped out, but I don't hink too many parts can without some serious mill work.

Others will know more details, they abe basically the same engine and will interchange, you can put a D17 in a WC from what I understand.
