I am having trouble with my front extension ram releasing to lower my mowing deck. Any ideas to help figure this out would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

cylinder cant cause much problems unless the packing nut is way too tight and dragging. might try that first. I assume the rear cylinders work o.k. so that rules out the valve linkage?? if you have rear cylinders then you must have a selector valve? It should be o.k. if you can feed oil to the cylinder. still sounds like the packing nut too tight?

Steve, I am new to this. .. Where is the packing
nut located?
You are right the rear cylinders work fine and the
selector valve appears to be working.
Thanks for your help.
Mike

the "chrome" rod stsicking out the front is the piston rod. It goes into the painted cast "body". to keep the oil from leaking out around the chrome rod there is a stuffing box wiht packing. packing looks like little pieces of roap wrapped around the shaft. the packing nut is the device at the outer edge of the body that you can tighten to crunch down on the packing and make it tighter and keep leaks to a minimum. I believe on the CA the nut is actually a knurled washer looking piece. you can put a pipe wrench around the piece and screw it counterclockwise 1/2 turn and see if this makes any difference. it should be just tight enough to not leak, not tight enough to drag the shaft. some cylinders have a big hex nut, some have a smaller knurled disc like yours. they all do the same thing.

Thanks Steve for breaking it down so even I could understand it. I'll give it a try. Mike
