D-12 (asking for my dad)

Hello everyone,

My dad asked me to do a little searching on the 'net about Allis Chalmers D-12's. He has one that's in pretty good shape and was wondering what a fair price for one is. He lived in Western PA and doesn't have access to a computer so I'm doing the legwork for him.
I see they were made over a fair number of years so if you need more information, I can ask him.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Andrea

Thanks Pete and Steve. I'm waiting for my dad to give me the the serial number so I can figure out what he has. I am sure that it has some sort of hydraulics on it, since he uses it to scoop snow in the winter.

My dad's a very good mechanic as well as a farmer so the tractor is in good shape. I'm not sure if this is the one that he worked on all last winter or not. The farm used to be a fairly active one, with a couple Internationals and a David Brown, but as my dad's gotten older and since he rents the farmland to other local farmers, he's not sure if he needs so many tractors to keep up.

Thanks again. I'll post the info when I get it.

Andrea

Andrea, It depends upon a few things; is it a series I, II, or III? Does it have a two range transmssion? and what does it have for hydraulics, and is it a 3pt hitch or snap coupler? As Steve said, D 12's are some what rare, in good shape, a series III with 2range tranny, remote hydraulics, and 3pt hitch will bring close to $4000 here in Upstate NY, $1200 on the low end. If you would like, send the ser# and options, I have been doing quite a bit of research on them lately as we just obtained a series 3 D 10, which is the same tractor with narrower axle width. I have a couple new value books, and a little real world knowledge as I sell new equipment for a dealer whose hobby is dabbling in antique tractors. The ser# will be on the lip of the casting where the engine and torque tube meet, on the lft side(as you sit on the tractor.) Pete

actually the D12 has the distinction of being somewhat rare. there were only about 4000 tractors made. It also is a relatively small tractor which makes it attractive to suburban homes and also collectors. I think your dad has a small gold mine. Depending on the condition, paint, tires, and if it has 3point hydraulics, you could be talking $2500-$3500. A lot depends on finding a collector who needs one.
