I have a 52 ca that just stopped going into gear while the tractor is running. I am new to this and would appreciate anyone's insight.
Thank You,Mike

are you saying the clutch will not fully disengage and the gears grind when you try to shift from neutral into gear with the engine running? Can you put into gear and then start the engine with the clutch pushed in? Does the tractor try to move with the clutch pushed in? If you want to take a look inside, drain the transmission oil and take the square plate off the right side of the transmission next to the shift lever. The plate has the shift arms attached to it. You can look around and see if something is bent, worn, etc, if you dont think you have a clutch problem.

Steve,
That is exactly what is happening. It operated fine one day and nothing the next. Do you think the clutch could just be stuck? If so any ideas on that?
Your advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

It sounds like you are saying the clutch is stuck. That happens when the rear crank shaft seal leaks slowly over a period of time and makes things sticky. I remove the starter and wash the clutch, flywheel with a pressure washer. Can also use liquid detergnet and a bug sprayer. Wash thru the 3 inch hole in the bottom of t the torque tube also. Drownd it good. To break the clutch loose you can start it in gear and with the cluch pedal down, stomp the brakes a few times as it moves forward. It might pop loose. I have also backed up aginst a block wall or tree, low idle, tires slipping, clutch in, and stomp the brak pedals. Sooner or later it will drop out. Again, wash the flywheel and clutch with soapy water and get all the oil off. Problem will probably go away for couple years unless you have a bad engine oil leak in the area.
