Hi All, If I remove shims from the mains, is it appropriate to plastic gage them for a correct re-torque. Also, can anyone tell me where I can get a switch for the starter.
Thanks

jeff, I have a 76 D-19 and have found an excellent allice chalmers dealership with a very knowledgable young parts guy.the name of the place is Summerix Impliment Sales in lachine michigan. the phone number is 989-379-2721. the area code has changed recently so it is either 989 or 898 lol but this guy is very good. this is a father son operation and the son is fantastic. the two guys names r burt and ivan. I dont know which is which though, sorry.

If you take out more than one shim from each side you may need to file the end of the bearing inserts to retain the proper crush fit, the book has a spec but I don't keep my book here at home.

You have the idea. .002 is what you need when torqued. You also need the same amount of shims on both sides.
