Good afternoon,

I'm new to this forum, usually hanging out at another forum (green), but I'm wondering if anyone has any good pictures of an early 1950s '60' combine (the version that had the lever to activate the auger as opposed to the knurled knob). We had one that Dad bought new in 1951 and I'm having trouble explaining to my 37 year-old son what a "real" combine looked like - all he knows is those big monsters that you see these days.

I looked in the photo album, but didn't run across any of the combine.

Thanks,

Stan Huff

On the left, I think there is a photo gallery. If not on the left, get to the main page and access it from there. Under implements, there are a few photos of All Crops.

The combine you are talking about with the lever is a model 66. The one with the knurled knob to activate the unloading auger was the model 60- made from the late 40's to later 50's. Dad's first combine was the 60, bought in '49, and traded in about 57, for the model 66, with the unloading lever that allowed us to unload on the go.

Did the 66 have an unloading auger that was solidly mounted to the bottom of the hopper (as opposed to pivoting at the front of the hopper)? Our combine was a 5' cut, and it did have the lever to activate the auger, which pivoted at the front of the hopper. We also had a remote cylinder on it to raise and lower the platform. Was the 66 out as early as 1951?

I remember that it had about 73 grease zerks. How did I know? I was so scared of missing one that I used the Operator's Manual every day when I greased it. Dad was pretty fussy about grease.

Thanks,

Stan
