crazy thought, my pal has a stuck wd and I have a good 350 chevy. I'm confident I can make it work. Do youall think its gearbox can handle the extra horses? thanks in advance

The old WD will take it. A friend of mine has a WD with a 390 on it. It is hooked directly to the WD tranny. It has been pulling for some years and the drive train has held up. He has had no problems with it. Had more motor problems than anything. Wish you luck. L Hud

Saw a D15 on agdealer.com hear while back with a 350 in it.Be very careful with it! 35 to 40 hp verses 200? wouldn,t take mutch of a jerk and the weak point is gone.
hope this helps Gordon

I think it would be Great to put a 350 Olds Diesel in it...!!! Would be cheap on fuel, and you won't have to devise a governor...!! The old WD-45 engine had Huge torque.... I don't think you will hurt the transmission.... The PTO is probably the weakest part...limit the loat on it to about 50 horse power.... Remember, the WD-45 engine made max torque at about 850 RPM...the Chebby will make the tractor awfully fast..and it may not pull any more than it did... Be Careful....accidents DO happen....!!

Years ago, we hopped up a WD with oversized sleeves, pistons and a WD45 crankshaft -- to something over 50 hp. The added power took the teeth out of the pto drive, and the pulley drive -- so we never did put it to the full pulling test for fear of tearing up the transmission. The WD45 transmission has helical cut gears vs. the straight cuts on the WD, and a ton more strength. You may want to consider going to a WD45 tranny if you can find one. If the tractor is a WD45 vs. a WD, you should be in good shape ... but I think you said it was a WD.
