Was at Tomlin Mills a week or so ago and noticed a WD with the axle gearboxes rotated to the rear about a bolt hole. Other than the obvious leverage advantage...can anyone see problems with this set up and what is needed to accomplish it?

AC did that on some of the smaller tractors, the CA has the final drives rotated back. The IB had them rotated forward 90 degrees, so Allis Chalmers didn't think there was a problem with it. Possibly they might have made the final drive housings heavier, I would think rotated they would be subjected to different stresses than straight up & down.

It upset the Oliver crowd. They can't do it.

It will lengthen your wheelbase which will have the following effects:
1. More weight on the front end. Good for not raring up.
2. Less weight on the rear. Bad for traction.
3. Larger turning radius. Not as handy.
4. Lower Center of Gravity. Better for stability.
5. Tractor will not sit level.

Also your wheel will be too far back for the hitch. You will have trouble with drawbar being too short for turning with wagons and implements. Tire hitting wagon tongue and harrow cables and such. Snap coupler implement may interfere with tires. An angled blade for instance could hit the tire.
