Please, anyone , help me out. Where are the serial numbers located on a 170 gas tractor?

Also, what is the difference between a D-17 and a 170, other than cosmetics?

Thanks for any answers!

E

SN is in the same location as the D series tractors....on the left side torque tube flange where it bolts up to the engine. Early model 170 and D17 series IV are similar with live hydraulic from a pump mounted where the belt pulley used to mount. 170 tractors after s/n 7500 have the hydraulic pump located in front of the engine and a different wide front set-up because of this. They have the "black stripe" hood. Compression ratio on the D17 was 7.25 : 1 and 1650 rpm, 170 is 8.0 : 1 and 1800 rpm. Gearing was not changed. 170 has hydrostatic power steering...no mechanical linkage.

Thanks much for the detailed answer!

Now that we are rolling, what are the horsepower specifications on these 4-cylinder engines? Also, did A-C ever use an engine balancer system?

Ah' 'preciate your help!

E

170 gas had 54.12 pto hp and 46.93 drawbar hp. 175 had 60.88 and 51.8 D17 had 52.7 pto and 48.64 drawbar.....funny the D17 had higher drawbar hp than 170, must be the live hydraulics robbed some power. I think a 170 will perform like a 175 with a 175 manifold and carb. Carb was 1/8" larger bore and compression ratio was 8.2
