Allis Chalmers B Serial Number. (Again)

I made a mistake on the serial number. Does anyone know what year B6937 is, I first put R6937.

Allis made 101 in their first year (1937) but they had different engines and are generally considered to be pre-production demonstrators.

Their first "real" production year was 1938 and the serial numbers went beyond 10,000. You have a 1938 that was probably made in mid year.

Some telling signs of a '38 are:

A skinny engine water return casting that was modified later to house a thermostat.

Only three holes in the hood. Oil filler, air filter and exhaust. There was no thermometer used in 1938.

The radiator couling had no hole for the shutter adjust.

The valve cover only had two holes for mounting studs.

1938's are getting more collectable these days since so many changes came after that first production year. You have a worthy project if you decide to restore it.
