My dad is interested in a CA. We found one yesterday, but dad would prefer a wide front end. Funny, dad doesn't always hear his wife, but he heard a knock in the engine, so, I think he will still be looking. Then drove out to look at a C - what a junky tractor, i.e. rusted fenders/bat. box./dents/tires/etc./etc. This one looks as if it has been out since new. Sad to see such neglect. Anywho...would the wide C front adapt/be the same as a CA wide front end. My dad tells of his uncles pampered CA...when the uncle died, a cousins son got the tractor. Along came the junkman and there went the tractor, for little or nothing. The CA got scraped/parted out. So, still looking. He has a B and an unstyled WC. I think he should have a 'vintage' AC implement to pull behind one of his AC's. Any encouragement out there? From the farm, Al

CA front end has two bosses in front of the steering gear to support the corn cultivator. These stick out through holes in the grille. You will need a CA grille, Cut holes in the C grille, or grind off the bosses on the CA bolster.

Al, as Kip stated the C and CA wide fronts are different. It is hard to see the differences unless you put them side by side, but the C front used small bars for the supports that went to the rear mounting area, and the CA used larger bars that were flattened on the ends before they were welded to the front end main tube. I would also like to ad that I have put a C wide front under a CA, and the only thing that didn't match up was the bottom mounting holes for the grill (nose piece). One more thing to ad is the fact that if you are changing either of these from a narrow front to a wide front you need to make sure you get the gear box, or front bolster, as the upper bearing area, for the wide front, isn't machined for a bearing, or at least it wasn't on the C that I tried to do this with, but I'm not sure about the CA.

Al,

My father has a B and a CA. The B has the factory optional adjustable wide front and it is the same as the CA's wide front. Of course the steering gears are different between the B and the CA but other than that they look very similar if not identical.

As for the implement thing, Dad is looking into a deal with a guy for a Roto-baler and I think that is the classic implement for ACs. It really shows that AC was ahead of it's time with round bales.

But yes I like to see a restored implement behind a restored tractor. Any brand will do.

Although they are not the same a C wide front will bolt right on your CA. However a CA front will not work on a C w/o minor modification. The B will not work on either.

The adjustable B will fit a CA. I have that combination. You must take the entire assembly from the engine foward and put the pitman arm on upside down.
