Two weeks ago I told dad I heard an ad for an Allis Chalmers CA. I was frantically trying to dial and got a busy, NUTS (or something in reference to that). We both tried for the next couple hours and finally connected. Dad was indifferent after we looked at it. I dropped him off for coffee and called the lady and gave her "cash America, accepted world-wide" Last week I got a ride and drove the tractor out to the farm - a little more than 17 miles in one hour and 40 minutes. One cylinder was dead. After a plug/wire replacement and timing, just touch the starter and it takes right off. The right rear rim is rusted through six inches on either side of the valve stem. 'Somebodies done gone' and brush painted the tractor, decals and all, without cleaning the surface, so, the paint has bubbled up. Dad said, "ya, this is a project for a sandblaster" Little does he know, (or that's what I think) that the UPS man had recently delivered my pressure sandblast pot. To gain his approval of this purchase, a first project will be to either do some of his old spoke tractor/Model A wheels or one of his old visible gas pumps. He sure squawked when I got the trailer-air compressor for a blaster. The sheet metal is great. Right rear tire has good lugs, but badly checked. Snap-coupler and this wide-front make it a nice package. I am the second owner-the tractor was bought in town at the now closed A-C dealership. So...I will have to look for a rear blade/chains so I can get at restoring my 2N this winter. Don't think the Dearborn front blade would work on the orange :)
I have a source for a single bottom plow for free and will look for other 'orange' stuff. A baler is something that I think will be a 'required option'. Dad could pull that behind his WC or B also, that should help with that purchase/find. Ok, thanks for letting me rraaammmblle. The coffee is cold and I am off to an auction after a stop at a bakery...From the farm, Al
