Is a B a good mower tractor?

I am thinking of getting a small tractor with a 5' mower. I have seen a couple B allis chalmers for sale. Do these make good mower tractors? Do they turn sharp with the wide front? Are they narrower than 60" to prevent the wheels from packing uncut grass? Good power for heavy grass? Good gear selection? Thanks

Depends. I have an L59 Woods on mine, found that 2nd gear is too fast (mower skips). 1st gives great job but slow. I'm now running a 6' back mower on a larger tractor with more gears, cut my main lawn mowing time by 1/2, but upped the edging time by 1/2. Netted a 2 hour gain on 4 1/2 acres of lawn..

If you're mowing 2 1/2 acre or unde rI'd take the B in a heartbeat. Over that you'd better have a lot of spare time to mow.

I have a 72 inch mower on my C with a wide front and it is great. Plenty of power, gearing is good, and turns plenty sharp. ( B and a C are basically the same tractor.) I think you'd really like owning one.
