My father just died last week and it looks like I might be ending up with his ac-c. it is a nice tractor complete with mold board plow, cultivators and a home made front snow blade, I know that it needs brakes after using it this past summer. can the breaks be replaced without splitting the tractor? if not I need to get clutch parts also as the throw out bearing is wining with clutch pressed in. also the hyd work but drop fast in center position is this caused by a valve sticking or broken on pump? its been a few years since I've seen the pump out of the tractor. o the last thing is I need to rebuild the starter are there kits available to do this? thanks AJ

You may be able to grease the throwout bearing from the access hole under the bellhousing. If it hasn't been done in many years this could fix it. If not, a rough bearing can last a long time if it has grease. You only load and rotate this bearing when you disengage the clutch, which you should only be doing for a few seconds at a time. My point is even though it may be a little rough it may last a long time as it only turns for a few seconds when you are starting or stopping the tractor. Of course if you are going to be using the tractor for 12 hour days all through haying season or something like that well you might want to replace the bearing now to be ready for work season. The brakesw can be done with just taking off the angle irons on top of the brake housings. They can be a little tough to get out but it can be done. Do you have a manual?

I will probably just be useing the tractor for moving snow and fixxing it up for show as it has semintal value. for the last 5-10 yrs the tractor has only been used for moving snow and mowing a 2 acre field 2-5 times in the summer. I denfinately need to replace the brakes but will try to grease the bearing. the starter is also low piority as the tractor starts nice with the hand crank on about the 3rd pull. the last thing that I forgot about is the steering rod that runs along the left side of the tractor ends are very sloppy can this be rebuilt or just replaced? I can't remember if there is a manual or not I know he had a couple but not sure if repair or just owners. thanks AJ

the steering rod has screw adjustable ends. pull the cotter pin, then screw in the big threaded plug, then repin.

You will have to split the tractor, to fix the clutch, but the brakes are not hard to replace. I replaced the brake shoes myself, but had a neighbor put in the new clutch.
