My 39 B was stuck when I got it. We put olive oil in the cylinders and got it loose, also worked on an oliver 80 of mine.

it sounds weird maybe but lots of times a stuck engine became "unstuck" by taking the head off and poor gasoline on the pistons that are stuck. then set fire to it!!! The heat will expand the cylinder but the gasoline will keep the piston cool.Rock the crank back and forward and 99 out of 100 times you will free up the stuck piston(s)

Go ahead, make a fire....

The best penetrating oil that I have used for a stuck engine is a half & half mixture of kerosene and automatic transmission fluid. Just fill each cylinder, wait a couple days (thats the hardest part,"waiting") then rock the rear tire with the transmisson in third gear. Be sure that the spark plugs are removed when rocking the rear tire.

I found a 39 B sitting in a field and decided it was pretty much all there. I took it home for 200 dollers. The motor was stuck so I tried every thing you`ve read about, but dicided to pull the head and take a look. After looking I needed to pull the motor and beat the piston and sleeves out with a large sledge hammer. If you need to do this be careful{hard to do with a large hammer} as I put a small crack in the head where the cylinders come together at the top. Good luck.

Get some Marvel Mystery Oil if you can find it up there. This stuff is amazing at loosening up corrosion. Lrt sit for a few days then get one rear tire up and try rolling back and forth. Repeat daily adding oil as needed until motor is free. Good luck there Bud!!

Matt, filling the cylinders with diesel will help loosen things up so you can disassemble it. If it has set that long with that much rain/snow, it has probably had its share of water inside. drain the motor oil and look at it. drain the antifreeze and look at it. remove the spark plugs and fill with PB blaster, or diesel, etc and let it set a couple months. you can try to rock it back and forth in gear, but i would disassemble it eventually. do not try to pull start, you will damage the valves, push rods and connecting rods among other things.

Matt, Start by loosening the rocker arms. Might be a stuck valve holding it not a stuck piston. From what you describe below I would not have a lot of hope of freeing it up easily but you might as well start by finding out what is stuck. Sounds like you need to do a bit of evaluating before you proceed too far.

When I was about 10years old my Father had an ALLIS CHALMERS C. Eventually the engine locked up one day, just quit turning over.My father had me loosen the oil pan and the main bearing caps. The engine then turned over.So before tightening the bearing caps he had me cut small shims out of match book covers that I fit between the bearing cap and the engine block.I don't know how long the crude fix lasted as my father got rid of it shortly there after.Back then it was either fix the tractor or you had to walk home!!!!! !!

now after thinking back to that time 30years ago. I beleive it must have been the rod bearing caps that my father had me shim out. Sorry to long ago
