so with out a dout i need to rebuilt the engine, how would the transmission and other component hold up? like clutch, brakes, seals, pto, hyd. pumps, and hyd. cyl. (it has a loader on it) ? what i really want to know is if i get the motor running will i be able to drive 5 miles back to cabin, or will i have to do all of the rebuilding and repairs where it sits? i have never work on tractors before, so i have alot of questions about this stuff! thank you all for your replies

Several things come to mind, like is it mired in? are the tires flat? What's free and what's not? Can it be rocked out of gear? Obviously the closer you can get it to your place the easier it will be to work on. I think I'd be looking at giving it an fuel oil "bath" to free everything thats stuck. Especially the engine. Regards, Rich

The clutch could be stuck but might break free. The hydraulic pump might have issues but usually with heavy oil in it, the trany and rear end should work. You haven't given a model number, that would help. Could you pull it home?

this is the story: i live in town and this is out in the bush where my cabin is, i get out to there about 5 - 10 times a year if im lucky, you cant drive to my cabin, you can snowmachine 100 miles on a frozen river or pay 300 smackers for an airplane charter. i dont have any numbers but from the pics that i have seen on this site it really looks like a D12. but as far as pulling home i have 2 honda four wheelers, there 2wd and 250cc , how much does that tractor wiegh?

A D12 is about the same as a CA, maybe 2800-3000 pounds. Good load for a 4 wheeler unless it is very level ground. I would keep thinking of a way to get it to a shop or barn. Once you start taking things apart you will find it is going to be a longa job. If it is a D12 instead of a WD or CA you have a much more desirable and valuable tractor. I would just about say forget the WD after 12 years in the goo, but a D12 would be worth the time.
