I found a bulldozer sittin in the woods on a piece of abandoned property near ym house. It says Allis Chalmers HD6 on the side by the seat, ID plate on the lower dash says HD6 83430

Can anyone tell me soem information about this?

It is appreant it has been sitting a while, i took a battery backa nd sprayed it with either and it fired, but the lines wont bleed so I cant keep it runnin. I loosened all the lines to manully bleed but nothing... I knwo imn doin it right as I do ti evertytiem i run my tractors out of fuel. Im guessing the fuel pump which should be located at the injector pump?

The serial number is probably wrong if it's a HD6. AC made, at most, a couple of thousand HD6s per year starting in 1955 and ending in 1965, with the last numbers in the range of twenty-thousand something. HD6 has a 344 cubic inch Buda engine.

It doesnt appear to ahve the plate changed.

Here is what i was told, a guy told me that supposedly bought the property it wa son, that he rna the number and it was reported stolen 20 years ago from flordia. The number i gave is what was run. This guy later foudn otu the dozer isnt on his property... so im goign to try to get the property it is on.

It says hd 6 on the side panel beside the seat. It looks liek the one in the pictures except its the original yellow with no cab. I will try to get a picture of it.. ASAP

Well the photo certainly looks like an HD6 (I've got an HD6B here). My serial number list only covers 1955 to 1965. 1965 starts with ser. # 18189. But, who knows? Allis merged with Fiat around 1974 and kept on making the crawler - but I'm not sure if was still called an HD6 or not. Engine was upgraded a few times along the way. Up to around 1965, the engine still had the "engergy cells" in it - more-or-less precombustion chambers directly opposite the fuel injectors on the other side of the head. Then, the were omitted along with a few other upgrades and the engine became the series 6000. Then, at some point in time, it got turbocharged - probably in the 70s.

Thsi engine ceertainyl aint turbo charged. but on the right side of the head, its got holes with plates bolted on them.. almost like for an intake/exhuast manifold. It may be awhiel before I get actual pics as I dont have a digital, only a 35mm... and 25 pictures of oen dozer would be waste.lol I think the fuel pump may be out on it, where is it located? bottom side of the incetorpump? I traced the lines to there, and it appears to be removable. Is there anywhere else i shoudl look for a serial number... i read theres oen someplace on the rear axle, under the fuel tank?

I went out this morning and looked at my HD6. Fuel transfer pump is bolted to the fuel injection pump. Machine serial number is on the differential case just below the fuel tank at the rear of the crawler.

Hey buddy the picture you show is definetly of a HD6. But if the engine has plates on one side with a single bolt in the middle of each plate and the plate is rectangular then it is more likely a HD 9 maybe. how many paltes does it have. The serial no. and model type is stamped on the rear diff housing. Standing at the back looking forward it will be on the left hand side at the top of the housing. If it is a HD 9 then it will be a detroit motor and it doesnt have a fuel pump as such. If it is a HD 6 then they are hard to bleed andneed to be bleed properly or they won't start. Get back to me Gary

I forgot to ask, what is a 4 X 4 Chevette? Did you build one? I've got a nice 2WD diesel - well - nice for a Chevette. Isuzu engine runs like a clock.

Those plates are the engery-cells (that's what Buda calls them). Must be the older engine. Should be one plate for each cylinder. I don't remember exactly where the fuel pump is; I'll have to go out and look at mine tomorrow. It is hooked between the two fuel filters, i.e. it sucks fuel through the first filter, and pushes it through the second one, then on to the injector pump. Serial number plate ought to be in back near the bottom of the fuel tank. Mine was almost hidden when it had a winch on it.

I went back today and checked... serial correct.. HD6B3430 not hd6 83430. Meaning is was one of 343o made that year? what year is it? Engine has 4 holes blocked off, and i located the fuel pump.
