Recently inherited a '48 AC model C. Can I use straight 30W oil. I was told the manual calls for 20W but I have a surplus of Havoline SAE30 HD. Also, what is the original oil filter type? This one has a screw on filter but I was told it used a cartridge filter. Any help for a rookie farmboy?

you can use straight 30wt as long as the outside temp is about 40 degress or higher. probalby a little hard on the internals if you use it at 20 degrees. use it during the spring, summer and fall, or keep tractor in heated garage during winter starts (yea- right). Th9e filter is a FRAM 159 spin on cartrige filter. it does not fit in a bolted can. the filter looks like a car filter, except for the larger threaded portion, and the inside must not be pleated paper, ect. it must be stuffed cotton, like a rag. should have a hole up the middle that slides over the 1/4 inch tube in the filter base.
