I just bought a Allis and don't know if it's a WD 45 or just a WD. It's been painted and doesnt say. I would also like to know the difference. I heard the WD had more horsepower. Where do you look and how do you tell one from the other? Thanks Sincerely, Art Norris

WD45 has more power. It has a 226 cid engine (4x4.5" bore and stroke) vs the 201 cid (4"x4") in the WD. Serial number is on the back side of the left brake housing. WD45 started at serial number WD 146607. Any earlier number is a straight WD. WD engine has a large steel plate bolted on the right side covering the push rods and may have a magneto. WD45 engine is all cast iron and was always equipped with distributor. Engine serial number is stamped in the block near the carburetor. 45 engine will be 45-##### while WD engine will start with a "W". Early WD's had the sliding gear transmission and had a straight shifting lever. Last year of WD production and all 45's had a curved shifter. THus straight lever =WD, curved, could be either.
