Wow, I just posted my tractor for sale, I got a lot of emails. Most of them with the words pretty messed up. Some don't even want a picture. They will just send a cashiers check.
Here is one email that I got.
What do you think of these 2 emails? Subj: Re: Allis chalmers C Tractor with Dump Loader Date: 6/10/2004 10:21:21 AM Eastern Standard Time From: marionetteleonard@yahoo.com To: k@aol.com Sent from the Internet (Details)

You mean to tell me you would actually think about accepting a "money order" for more than the advertised amount and then wire your money for the difference to them? I wouldn't make that transaction with my mother muchless some foreigner. I thought Allis owners had more common sense than that!!
Ignore it!!

This is 9 chances out of 10 a scam, because it is too good to be true. These boys don't even bargin like most normal people. Just ask him to simply send you a 'US money order' or hot wire it by 'western union'. He won't mind the western union charges if he really wants the piece you have for sale.

I just had two guys contact me about a disc I'm selling. They had no questions, just stated that they would be paying by cashiers check. They didn't sound as though they even knew what a disc was, not to mention their phrasing was odd. One said he was from Illinois, the other was from Spain. I'd rather be safe than sorry. Good luck.

Al,

More likely than not, if you're being contacted by a foreign buyer offering a "cashiers check" that happens to be several thousand dollars more than you're asking for a tractor, then you getting sucked into a long-running scam. Had a fellow contact me about a year ago offering $7000 for a $1500 tractor. He wanted the balance wired back to him. I knew something was funny so I just kept his check for a souvenier. There are many posts on this site talking about this--just search on "scam".

I do know a fellow in Indiana that sells restored JD tractors to overseas customers but I think he's selling to JD dealers.

Al,

The check I received (from the scammer's accomplice in MD) was also a US bank--a bank in south Florida. I called the bank and provided the account # and routing number and they were bogus. If you want to play this thing out, then go ahead but I definitely would NOT wire any money back to him. Tell him to provide info on the US bank he's using so you can use the same bank to cut him a check for the "refund". Watch how fast he runs away!!!

They can get pretty elaborate - they get a real check, send you a copy, and so when the bank checks there is a real check as you have presented. But weeks later, it is returned as a fake, and you are out the money.

We see people talking about these things here every 3-4 days. It's a real racket.

Why would they be hot to get USA implements which have no parts support where they are, when they can buy a new Turkish import for the same or less money?

Proceed with most extreme caution. It could be for real. Sounds like a scam to steal your money to me. Don't be the sucker that falls for it.

He might be legitimate. I'd check with my local bank if I were you, and and see if there are ways to know if the check is good before you release the goods to him.
