I have a few questions regaurding my 1938 B. First I broke (my own falt!) the oil pick up. The pice is still intact, would brazing be the best fix. Also how do you turn the tractor off? I have no kill switch and not shure what to do. Thanks for the help Andrew

Andrew,

Rod is right on the money there about a switch up by the driver's seat. A simple push/pull switch or toggle will do it. We have a remote kill switch kit available if interested.....

Andrew; Brazing the oil pickup will work. As far as shutting the engine off, look on the magneto case in front of the main body where it bolts to the engine--there should be a spring-steel tab there. Push it into the magneto with a screwdriver and it will ground out the magneto and stop the engine. You can run a remote kill switch from that tab as well. Hope this helps.

Hi Andrew,

Without more details, I would guess that brazing would be a satisfactory fix. You must a magneto system. There should be a spring lever on the side of the mag that you depress with a finger in order to ground out the magneto and stop the tractor. My '42B used to be like that. That's dangerous because you cannot stop the tractor from the seat and have to get off and (usually) go around the other side of the tractor to get at the mag. I recommend you run a wire from the stud that lever is attached to up to the seat area. Install a single pole, single throw on/off switch between that wire and any ground on the tractor. That way the switch can be used to both enable engine operation and to stop it.

B Better; If brazing is not possible right away, clean the bonding surfaces with a rag and clean with ether. Then mix up some JB Weld to hold it together. Braze is better.
Make that electrical switch a momentary contact switch so it will restart without resetting a single pole switch. Those old Allis B tractor designers/engineers/technicians would simply
marvel at such improvements.
