Do the rearend, gears or anything else intechange between an Allis A to a U? what about putting an allis A or E or power unit engine in a U frame? Is the bolt pattern the same? Just curious..Gimme a break, I am a RED guy, getting interested in orange!...hehe...AC

Prior to mid 1938 model A production there is some interchange with the internal transmission parts from the U to A. After mid 1938 about the only interchange is the case. There is an adapter ring between the engine and transmission on the model A. With one of those rings and the proper clutch and flywheel any model E tractor or power unit can be atached to a U transmission.

What about the way the front end mounts up? Does a U tractor utilize frame rails? How much does the steering differ? I am a RED guy through and through, but I want a heavy class tractor that isn't a WK40 or Moline U or G or a Case 600. I want to do it different, but it is going to take some "figgerin." Thanks, AC

No frame rails, engine and trans is the "frame". The timing cover on any E engine will have the pivot hole for a wide front axle cast into it. If this works you will see a picture of one of my As that should help you answer your questions about steering

How about a "C"? I have seen one which is at Lake George Colo. and is used at their Tractor Pull around July 4. I can't tell the difference from an A or U and now this C. An Old AC purist could I'm sure. All three look alike to me. My dad had a UC which he used for Belt work but I was never able to Drive it. I was too young I guess. I could really drive Our WD45 with power Steering and our U MM. but that old UC was too much of a handful for me. I was about 8 yrs. when we got it and 11 when it found a new Home.

What"s an A worth...$5000 unrestored? more?
Don"t know where a good power unit could be found, or an A engine? I really want to build a competitive puller out of this Allis, because there isn"t any around here...I need to find a good parts source...thanks for all the info..AC

I have a few old Fred Cooper oilfield tractors, they used a 560cu.in. Allis power unit engine on a early U tranny and rear end. Pretty unique units. Actually Cooper used the same engine to tranny adapters as Allis. I really think the A Allis came from the Cooper design. I have an A Allis that is restored and getting ready to restore one of the Cooper tractors. I have some pics posted on the Unofficial Allis web site of ya wanna look. If you wanna visit about them give me a call @ 918 789 3293. Thanks Bob
