Just below I posted sucess with the sleeve pullin'. Now, for installation do I use a sealer on the new O-rings and at the top of the sleeve? If so, what type, silicone or aviation cement or ?? All help is appreciated!

I always used Murphy's Oil Soap on the liner orings when overhauling a CAT truck engines. Those use what they call a filler bad at the top of the liner. This top filler band is soaked in oil prior to installation which causes it to swell and seals the top of the liner.

use dish soap on the orings. DO NOT USE VASALINE!!!! dawn or joy works well. I have overhauld several big IH engines this way with no problems!!

This is the info I found when installing my sleeves last summer. Only thing I did not use vaseline, I used High Temp silicon, as vaseline degrades rubber products
HTH...Keith
Installing Sleeves
1. While handling sleeves, stam them on end,do not drop or lay on sides as distortion may result.
2. Thoroughly clean the upper and lower counter bores.
3. Install new rubber packing rings before installing sleeves in block.
4. Coat the rubber rings as well as the lower portion of the sleeve and the lower block bore with Vaseline. DO not use vaseline in grooves of sleeve.
5. Place sleeve in bore and give a quick twist as it is pressed into position. This will start the rubber O-rings into the bore.
6. Tap sleeve firmly into position with wooden mallet. Top shoulder should protrude .001 - .004 inch above machined surface of block.
7. Pour a small amount of water into block to determine wether there is any leakage around the rubber O-rings.
Engines that have had new cylinder sleeves and pistons installed should be given the same consideration that is given to a new engine.Always use SAE#10 oil for starting. For the first 50 hours run at half load or less before going to full load.

Get the O-ring sealing surfaces good and clean...

Get the inside of the water-jacket clean at the bottom of the water-jacket...

Use a non-hardening sealer--like Aviation gasket sealer, and coat the entire bottom of the water-jacket--it is easier with the sleeves out.. This will help prevent water getting into the oil, should a web crack between a pair of sleeves. Liberally apply Aviation gasket sealer to the o-rings and the O-ring sealing area in the block... The sealer acts as a lube to slide the sleeves in, and seals those O-rings up for good..!! Ron..

I just used liberal amounts of vegetable cooking oil on the o-rings. This was on a 262 diesel.
If I remember correctly from years ago when I worked at an A/C dealer's shop. we just used some grease.
Nothing on top, because the head gasket seals there. However, you could use some Permatex#2 under the lip.
