I just put in a new 9 spring clutch and pressure plate, and the clutch slips. Is there any adjustment in the pressure plate that will tighten it up?

Thanks

Are you sure it's the engine clutch that is slipping, not the hand clutch? A quick way to tell (if it slips real bad) is to engage the PTO, put the nose of the tractor against something really substantial, engage the hand clutch, and then let out the foot clutch. If one of the clutches slip, watch the PTO. If it stops rotating with all clutchs engaged, it's the engine clutch that is slipping as it controls power to both the wheels and the PTO. If the PTO stops, then it's the hand clutch as it only controls power to the rear wheels.

This method is risky so BE CAREFUL. I would hesitate to use it unless a clutch is really slipping badly. You don't want to push something over!

I have done away with the hand clutch. The release bearing is free from the pressure plate when the clutch is out.I am building this tractor for pulling. The clutch won't hold starting off in first gear with a load.(hook to large tree).
Thanks

Is the throw-out bearing hanging up somehow..??

Do you have about 1 1/2" free-play in the linkage..?? The 9 spring pressure-plate should not slip..! Was it a NEW pressure-plate, and clutch-plate.??

Check to see if the throw-out bearing is free, and does not have any pressure on it from the pressure-plate fingers... It should have some free-space between the fingers and the throw-out bearing.. The 9 springs is 33% more pressure than the WD-45 came with early in production, and shoule hold well. What are you doing with the tractor when you have the slipping problem..?? Even when I am pulling a 4-14" plow, and after 20 years, mine does not slip and will start up that load in 2nd gear with NO problem...and THAT is a LOAD..!!
