Have a friend with a AC B that won't stay in 3rd gear. He has said that this condition came on suddenly. When he puts it in 3rd gear it will slip out slowly. We'll get a service manual, but before we tear into the tranny, a couple questions: 1) What should we look for? and 2)Can we access most possible problems through the access opening?

Thanks

you can see everything thru the side cover, but all you can do is straighten the shift forks, or adjust. all the gears are slid on the shaft and if you see rounded off teeth, you need to pull the transmission apart from both ends.
