I just installed a 3 Pt unit and when I removed the final drive bolts I lost all of the differential fluid and when I removed the old hydraulic hoses/operator I lost a lot of the hydraulic fluid. My manual does not cover fluids. The two fluids looked the same....are the shared? What type fluid do I add to each or both? Thanx much for any response, Chuck

you got the right data, but the wrong terminology. FINAL DRIVE is the last gear reduction from the top shaft to the axle shaft. this cavity is 1 quart of 90 wt gear lube and is filled thru a 1/2 inch pipe plug on the sheetmetal pan inside the wheel rim.--- the transmission, bevel gear, and pto all share the same 8 quart sump up above this. there are three plugs on the bottom of the three cavities. they all fil thru the trans 1 inch pipe plug. i go alon with the guys, get universal hy-trans at wall mart for about $10 for 8 quart jug.

Perhaps Vince was implying that the UTF was fine for the final drie as well as the commpn sump.

Lots of manufacturers spec UTF in final drives. CNH does.. etc.

The final drive, differential, PTO, and hydraulics all use the same fluid. It is filled in the plug by your left foot in the tranny when sitting on the tractor. I would recomend taking out all 3 of the drain plugs underneath the diff, PTO, and tranny and drainging everything since you are not sure what type of oil is in it currently. Also try and get all of the oil out of the hydraulic lines. The manual recommends SAE 30 non-detergent oil. Or you can use hydraulic-trans oil. I use the hy-trans oil that is sold in 5 quart bottles at wal-mart and have no problems at all with it. The stuff at wal-mart is only like $8.00 or so.
