Had an M Farmall set up like that for 25 years or longer now, the only thing that ever happened is the back plate on the starter cracked not long after I did it, but I think there had to be a crack there before or something because it never happened again, it's been started many times since then. Just don't crank her too long if it doesn't want to start as the starter will get a little warmer than before, but with the higher cranking speed it should start much faster than before.

I run my WC and MH44 with the original 6 volt starters in 12 volt systems. WC for 10 years and the 44 for 8 years. No problems from either tractor.

Chuck, As the other guy"s stated you will have no problems. I do the same thing on my C. The starter does not care what the voltage is.

Good Luck

Hi Chuck,

I converted my '42B to a 12v alternator system a couple of years ago. I use the regular 6v starter. No problems at all. Turns over fast and starts instantly. Mine's a working B that gets used during the summmer months so it has had plenty of time to show that running 12v on a 6v starter does not cause a problem.

I've run fords and JD with 12v on a 6v starter and solenoid with no problems. I've seen a few 'G's with an alternator on them.. and starter 'looked' oem and as old as the tractor was... etc.
