I have a problem with the hand clutch on my D14. The clutch is stuck in the neutral position it feels as if you were trying to move the handle without pushing the thumb button down, but thats not the problem. I removed the side plate so that I could see the clutch. But I did not see anything bent or broke. The whole clutch assembly will move back and forth about a 1/2 inch and thats it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I let all of the oil out of it, sprayed down with PB blaste through the cover in the side, and it eventually loosened up enough so i could shift it, then I just kept working it until it operated normally

The tractor had not been used very much in the past 5 years and it had been parked over the winter when this problem occured. If it is seized up how do I free it up.

I think I understand your problem so I am going to try to explain a solution. The lever is splined to the shifting shaft via tapered bolt. the shaft hooks to a shift collar which has linkages on it that apply the spring washers inside the clutch packs. I can see 3 things wrong here.
1) The shift collar is stiff on its bushing..I ran into this on my D14

2) The Clutch Packs are shimmed way to tight. This is unlikly unless someone has messed with the clutch pack.

3) The piviot points for the linkages the connect the shift collar to the spring washers are froze.

None of these are likely unless the tractor has been sitting for a long time as with my D14. Is this something that has just started or has the tractor been sitting in a barn for 20yrs??

If the whole PD clutch BODY is moving; the internal snap ring that holds the assembly onto the transmission input shaft may have come out of the groove.

Hard to tell without being there and seeing.
