I have a 1948 wd that has a 12 volt battery, mag. altenator and a voltage regulator. It looks like the original voltage reg. and is all corroded and not working. My question. Should I go back with the original voltage reg. and will it work with a 12 volt altenator? I couldn"t find anything in my manual covering the voltage reg.

Thanks for your help.

the guys are right. the tractor had a generator with 6 volt regulator when it was new. a generator is 5 inches in diameter and about 10 inches long and steel. --- it might have been updated to an alternator. an alternatro was built after 1965 and has an aluminum housing, about 6 incehs diameter and 6 inches long. Some are 6 volt, some are 12 volt. some have voltage regulators inside if they were built after 1975-80. You need to figure out what you got and if it needs a regulator. look for a name or model number, or better, take it to NAPA and give it to them and ask for a DELCO 10SI off a 1975 chevy truck and install it. it will have an internal voltage regulator and you are good to go.

First you must determine if the alternator already has an internal regulator. Possibly you have a system that had a regulator installed for a 6 volt generator and then a alternator installed to replace the generator.

If that's the case, start from scratch and rewire for what you have.

I have some diagrams on my website that may be of some help.
