We just purchased a 1973 200 (pictures in Tractor Photos). I just wanted to say that this forum was a big help for us in our purchase, even though I myself did not ask any questions, the archives were vital in the decision. The tractor seems to be in good shape after about 7 hours of use. She smokes a bit at start up (oil?), and has some creep in the lower gears with the power director in Neutral, but doesn't seem to be a big problem at this point. All the gears stay put while in operation at this point (they do take a while to find however). Only real concern is a popping noise at lower RPM's (normal with straight pipe exhaust?) so we will be checking out the valves as soon as the season is over. Any comments or questions are welcome, and thanks again.

Just bought a 200 a week ago. Cab, loader and 3950 hrs. Seems to be well cared for but am still learning out about the tractor as there are not many Allis in our area. Steering and brakes seem good compared to my old Case 930's. There is lots of good info on this site but I still need to find an operators manual. Good luck with yours.

All the tractors we've operated have their own quirks/character, this new allis included. We plan on finding a good loader for this one to use with an accumulator system. Ditto on the operators manual, just havent gotten around to it yet.

On the smoke, what color is it? If it is white smoke, then it may be the turbo oil seals are out. If it is blue smoke, then you have diesel that is not completely combusted. Also, check your radiator, white smoke could be the sign of antifreeze getting into the cylinders. If you have bubbles in the radiator that are forming while it is running, it means you are getting compression through your radiator. The creep is normal to some degree, excessive drag coule mean either you need to adjust your powerdirector or the plates are warped. Good luck, and it looks like a nice tractor.
