I HAVE CONVERTED MY WD-45 TO 12 VOLT SYSTEM. MY ALTERNATOR IS PUTTING OUT ABOUT 16 VOLTS. I NOW HAVE 2 RESISTORS IN THE ELECTICAL WIRE GOING TO MY 6 VOLT COIL. SHOULD I GO TO A 12 VOLT COIL AND ELIMINATE THE RESISTORS? ALSO WILL THIS WORK WITH THE ORIGINAL TYPE BREAKER POINT IGNITION? OR COULD I THEN PUT ONE OF THE RESISTORS BETWEEN THE COIL AND THE DISTRIBUTOR?

If your alternator is putting out 16 volts, better get a new regulator if it is an internal GM type, or if it is a mechanical one, adjust it down to 13.5 volts. At 16 volts, you're going to add a lot of water to your battery. Now that your voltage is under control, use a 12 volt coil with one ballast resistor, or get a coil for a Kohler engine like whats on most garden tractors. This coil has the ballast resistor built in it. Just remember to take it easy on the starter. They will live at 12v if the engine starts easy. Hope this helps. Brian
