I bought 6 Allis Chalmers B's. One is serial number 306 with hand brakes and no electric start. It also has the solid cast front centers. Although the serial number is low, does the hand start hurt the value? I want to restore one and am not sure which one to restore.

if you are going to a show and want to be strictly original, might have hand brakes and no starter. for a day to day unit, a starter motor is a must. i took the hand brakes off my 1942 and put foot brakes on to make it more user friendly. i personally wont buy a B without starter. value is in the eye of beholder.

Generally speaking, the lower the serial number and the more original it is, the better the value. If the magneto is in good condition and timed properly, it won't kick when cranked.

I would think hand start would help the value, but not sure. I know you will not catch me tring to start one, the one I had years ago sent me to the hospital with a bad arm. Almsot broke my arm when it kicked back.
