'52 Allis CA will not run...why?

I have a '52 Allis CA. New points, condensor, plugs, wires, head and manifold gasket, rebuilt carb etc. Head and Valve job. Good Compression. I am getting fire on each plug. I have checked firing order many times. Checked timing. It will turn, catch, and putt for a couple of seconds. No ammount of carb adjustments, choke, starter fluid etc, has kept it running. We have checked for leaks in all sorts of places. I am thoroughly stumped. I am sure it is something very simple. Are there any suggestions?

I would only have questions at this point.

First question is, have you taken a compression check?
Second one is, have you checked the gap between the rocker arm and the valve stem? This is called out at .010 but I use .012. Ether one will make it run fine.

If you have adjusted the valves and you have good compression. The next question is, will it putt longer when you spray starter fluid into the carb?

I am getting about 90 psi on average. All the rocker arms have the correct gap over the valves. I put number one piston on compression stroke and manually turned engine until the fire line appeared in the hole on the left side of bell housing. According to all I have found the firing order is 1-2-4-3. I have checked the rotor button to make sure it is pointing the right direction. When I turn the engine it spins right over and will putt for a second or two. I can spray starter fluid in the carb and get the same results. Putt putt putt nothing. It is pulling air. You can feel it with your hand and really hear it when you choke it. I still think it is a pretty simple problem. It just eludes me. I have been reading alot about champion plugs being junk. I think that is what I have, should I replace them?

just a thought...are you going right direction with firing order? pull the cap and turn engine over and note which way rotor spins...wires go same way.
if everything else is right i'd try a different condensor...cant tell ya how many i've gotten that were bad out of the box.

and you heard right...champions are junk

Just spark. With wet plugs that spark and 90 pounds of compression I will make a guess you have number one plug set up as number four. It will try to run a litte with it reversed.

Try to turn the hand crank real slow and listen and watch for the spark at number one plug wire. Real slow inching to the snap and spark. Adjust it to the TOP DEAD CENTER LINE in the center of your inspection hole. Here is a picture of the plug wires and their path. Number one is up by the fan.

With a distrubitor Number one is to the block closest to the fan. Just as the picture only turned up.

I hit the filter with a hammer to get the spark plug socket on and off.

Was it on the FIRE line or CENTER line?

It was on the Fire line. Should I have it on the Center line? Am I a little out of time? My spark plugs are wet. So fuel is getting in the cylinders. Still puzzled and perplexed. I bought the tractor for $100, I knew I would have some problems. This is my 5th antique fixer-upper and have hit a brick wall it seems. I do appreciate all the help.

Center line @ Top dead center the fire mark will apear at around 500rpms when you time the machine.I had this same trouble with mine about a year ago it sounds like the timing is off, Just keep working at it and you will get her.

I helped a fella a few years back that put the butterfly in wrong and it would not open up. Try to move the governer crossover hooked to the carb. Another thing to check, but the plugs should not be wet then though.
