do allis wd tractors have live power like my 3020 JD? I don't know any thing about wd's and found one I would like to buy and fix up to rake hay with, Just wondering if I could put it on a small square baler? Thanks for the help

... Spent many a day on the wagon behind baler and both WD and JD 3020. The 3020 is quite a bit newer tractor and probably overkill for a square baler.
I actually prefered baling for one young farmer who used a WD with a Case baler. Nothing to do with the WD. His sister just looked real good driving it in a bikini! But that is a subject for another forum.
Both tractors will give smooth starts and stop when baling, it's just up to the skill of operator. The 3020 in fact could easily throw you off the wagon if you are not careful with the clutch.

It would be difficult to find a better older tractor to bale with. I must say they ride rough! Also one of the most trouble free older tractors. Also super great on a small, like a 6 ft , pull type bush hog

A wd is a good tractor to play with. But if you could find a wd-45, it would have more power, but almost the same size.

WD has live pto and hydraulics, your 3020 has independent pto and hydraulics. Sid gave a good explanation of how the WD system works.

The WD has two clutches. One is the engine (foot clutch) and is located at the engine flywheel. When this clutch is pushed in you do not have PTO hydraulics or ground travel. It is used to shift gears and to engage the PTO. You have hydraulics anytime the tractor is running and this clutch is engaged. When the PTO is in gear and this clutch is engaged you have power to the PTO. The transmission clutch stops the ground travel and allows the PTO to keep running. It has been my experience that the WD is a good tractor to put on a small square baler. I do not have the experience to compare WD to a 3020 but it is a good tractor.

I agree with Sid. I only farm with a WD and WD45. They are very good tractors and I pull a square baler every year with mine. The hand clutch comes in handy when using the baler.

HI

I use all wd and farmall H 's . The wd's are a great tractor for raking narrow front. As for wd's baling and pulling a wagon, we have a few too many hill, and the 5500 pounds is too light for them. They 'll bale about 2 tons of bale wieght and we have to go to level to finsh off the load. I'll allways have at least two wd's on a farm, I like them that much. If I would say the one down fall of them is there seat it is off set.

Have a Good One!!
