brake controls on 49 AC B.....what the.......

I've had my B for some time and hated the 'hand brakes only' configuration. I have a right foot pedal that has the linkage connected to the PTO lever (obviously a jury-rig). Now I read a post that says the hand brake set up was done away with in '41. Is that a fact? Should myne have foot brakes on it? If so, I've got to make the switch!.

I ordered a set of hand op handles and locks on ebay that 'no way' fit mine, and I'm thinking that mine has a very well done DIY set installed,... so I guess I might need to resell my factory ebay set and locate a set of foot operated thingmees.

Thanx for any suggestions or input on this, Chuck

I bought a almost complete foot brake setup at a tractor show this past summer for only 20 bucks.

I have changed over several B"s from hand brakes to foot brakes. I thae the side rails, brake actuaters that fasten to the brake bands, brake pedals, and all the linkage from a C. The picture below is of the left side. I torch cut the C side rails to the same size as the B side rails and grind smooth.

Dick, I have all the stuff you mentioned from a C. I plan on changing my `40 B over to foot brakes. Question: Do I need to cut the C side rails for looks only, or will they not fit as they are? Thanks....Stan

My book says that beginning with serial number 52719, the B has foot brakes. That serial number was in mid 1941. So if yours has hand brakes, your serial number is probably less than 52719. Both versions were made in 1941. Your serial number is at the base of the shift tower.

I've seen guys selling the foot brake assembly on Ebay. Just be patient as they don't come up that often. I believe the assembly is the same for a B and a C but I don't know that first hand. Maybe someone else knows.
