Looked at A WD for sale today. Everything looked pretty good. Only problem was this VERY LOUD noise coming from the rear end. I have been around many WD's and have noted many with a small noise yet none with this amount. Any ideas would be appreciated.

My 1951 WD makes a lot of noise in the rear end but most around my area made a little. Mine makes lots of noise like what u are talking about but nothing wrong with it.

my 53 WD makes a almost scraping//squeeking sound like dragging a table across the floor when I first start going with it. The fenders seem to vibrate and mplify this sound. Its pretty loud, but goes away within a few minuites of being driven around. I have no Idea what it is. Final drives are freshly oiled. I dont remember it doing it when I first got it, but I only drove it for a Min. before I adjusted the brakes and spin out rims. My guess is it has something to do with that. My wheel berings in back need tightening as there is a slight movement if you push on the wheel. IM going to try that this spring and see if it helps. I wish I knew what that sound is though.

Its seems to be a whining/moaning noise somewhere in the back area of tractor. It does not make noise setting still and it gear, yet once you move it starts and gets louder with each gear.

could be any number of things like final drive bearings or pinion bearings...not a super easy job but if youre handy with tools you should be able to fix it in a day or 3.
