i have awd allis i switch over dist. beecause mag. went out on me i set the timing on all the marks like the book told me and it started fine but it sounds like its not hitting on all 4 pulled out spark plug wire one at a time and found that the 2 middle cylinders are noy hitting my friend said the dist. turns clock wise but the book says counterclock wise so do i follow the same fire order on engine as on dist.? or is it 1234 from the fan or is it 1243 from the fan? i am lost never had this problem

I would also replace the plugs with Autolite 295. I had the same issue and that's all I ended up needing.

I agree with BOB I would switch #2 and #3 and see what happens the least it could do is run right. The only other thing I know that could be wrong is you have a bad cap and or rotor. Or if its a used distutor the bushings in it could be bad and it doesn't open the points in those to places. But I would bet its that you have 2 and 3 switched

I'm confused. But the firing order is 1243. The results are the same whether you start from the front or the back, but convention is to start in the front (radiator end). I agree that you may have the wires on 2 & 3 crossed.

i have a wc tractor with no motor and radiator but most of it still in one piece can i put a d17 gas engine in that wc and have no problemsi,m thinking that if a d17 engine is a 226cid than should work fine i do not know about flywheel matching up to trany. a wd45 has same 226cid also so it should work plaese help

It's REAL simple to determine distributor rotation... take the distributor cap off, crank the engine a bit, and OBSERVE which way it turns.

Cylinder numbering is 1234, front (radiator) to back.

Try swapping the spark plug wires from the two cylinders that are NOT firing.
