Yeah...check the gen out, then wire it up. ALSO, make sure that the battery is not the problem. I spent alot of time once on a charging system just to find out that the battery (even though it showed 12.5v) couldn't supply any start current 'cause it was bad. If you charge a 6volt batt, then try to start the tractor with it, the volt meter shouldn't drop below 4.8v while cranking...a 12v shouldn't drop below 9v.

so the first thing i need to do is check gen. if that is ok than where should i put the wires to make it charge the bat.

This isnt that easy answer not being there and not knowing for sure what you have, but I will give it my best shot:

The genny ought to have like a Field Post (smaller of the 2) and an Armature Post (larger of the 2).

If the tractor uses a full fledged 3 terminal Voltage Regulator, its ARM (or GEN) terminal wires to the Gennys ARM post,,,,, ,its FLD terminal wires to the gennys Field Post,,,,, ,and its BAT terminal wires up to the Load (NOT to battery/starter) side of the ammeter and thats the output wire to get to n charge the battery via the ammeter.

If it uses the simple 2 wire Cutout Relay and light switch field current control system, the Cutout Relays GEN terminal wires to the gennys ARM post, while its other BAT terminal wires to the ammeter as described above. The gennys Field post would wire up to the charge terminal on the light switch.

Any previous mag kill switch grounding wire SHOULD NOT BE USED if its now a battery powered coil ignition system. A typical ignition primary circuit would originate on the starter where the big battery cable attaches for the hot ungrounded battery voltage feed,,,,then to the Supply side of an ammeter,,,,, ,,,then out the ammeters Load side (same ammeter terminal that wires to the BAT terminal on a Voltage Regulator or Cutout Relay),,,,, ,,,,to an ignition switches BAT input terminal,,,,, ,,out the switches IGN terminal to the coils input,,,,, ,then out the coils output to the distributor,,,,, ,,,,,to and through the ignition points to frame ground when they are closed.

Did it charge prior to the ignition changeover???? If so but not now, verify the wiring per the above n post back findings and questions !!!!! !!!!!

Nah...all the old switch did was short the mag to ground to kill the spark. If you kept that configuration, when you shut the tractor off, you would have shorted the gen to ground and eventually burned it up...so...the only thing I can think of is either the gen is shorted to gnd somehow, or, the cutout relay is polarized open, or your gen just happened to go up when you made the change...hard to troubleshoot that one without being there...

the wd had a kill switch going to mag.it was the original one wire to mag.
