If you look at the specs on that one, it's 5" long...be tough to fit in the housing...I guess you could mount it outboard somewhere...or try this one:

The resistors are in series with the charge circuit for standard low charge...the light switch just created a short around the resistor for high charge. SOME auto parts stores have high wattage/low resistance wire wound resistors to rebuild heater fan switches. When I re-wired mine, I replaced the light switch with a triple pole/triple throw switch and made position 1-std charge with resistors / position 2-std charge and lights on / position 3-high charge no lights. I got the wire wound resistor here in Baltimore at a place called Baynesville Electronics. I thought I'd could do without my lights too...I was wrong within 2 months

some guys wind their own, but what i would do is buy a 10 ohm, 10 watt and connect 3 together in parallel. i bought them at RS for $1 each to use on the Delco alternator conversions. in parallel that would be 10/3 or 3.3 ohms and 30 watts

Hi Steve,

I believe you are incorrect on the equivalent resistance of 3.3 ohms in your example. The equivalent resistance for multiple resistances in parallel is the reciprocal of the sum of the reciprocals of the individual resistances. In other words, for three resistors in parallel, 1/Req = 1/R1+1/R2+1/R3. That would make three 3 ohm resistors in parallel equal to 1 ohm, not 3.3 ohms.

OOPS! Sorry Steve, you are in fact correct at 3.3 ohms using three 10 ohm resistors in parallel. I was thinking 3 ohm resistors instead. I should have read your post more carefully.

Sorry, I didnt realize that half of the title got cut off.

I need to replace the defective light switch/resistor on my model C and didnt want to buy a 70 dollar switch when a cheap radio shack part will do what I need, I jsut wasnt sure exactly what resistor I needed.

Thanks.

What is it on and what are you trying to do?
A switch is just on and off. Just don't connect the wire and it's off.

for low charge use a 3 ohm 25 watt

Ted, 3 ohm, 25 watt OK so where does a person purchase one of those, any ides? Radio shack says, ya right. Lots of three ohms from about 1/2 watt on down.
