Are the final drives interchangable between a straight stick WD and a Wd-45?

I hope they are the same. I have a set of WD final drives torn down to rebuild and put on my WD45. My WD45 has bad pinion bearings, so to reduce down time, I'm rebuilding the WD final drives to bolt on to the WD45. I measured them up and everything looks the same. Kraig (WI)

I think that the rear wheel axle is slightly beefier on the WD45, but I think the gears and splines are the same. I remember when I broke one on a 45D (using a D17D engine and clamp-on duals pulling a 4-row no-till planter), we could only find a regular WD axle. It was not quite as meaty in the flange area, but it still fit.

The big reason I ask is a guy I was talking to said they had different gears inside. Just wanted to make sure.

Yup; according to my AC mechanic buddy, lotsa parts are also used in the D series tractors.

I believe they are, but someone more experienced than I am should confirm.
