I have a wd not sure what year. But i have never own one till now. And do not know what is considered normal. When i'm running in first second or third there is a howling sound only when loaded or going uphill. It happens but not nearly as loud in firth. Is this gear howl normal in wds. any ideas?

The WD's did this because they had straight tranny gears. The WD-45 has angled teeth gears and do not howl nearly as much. This is a normal thing. Do not worry about it.

If you have one of the earlier WD's with the straight shift lever, it has square cut gears in the transmission. These were known to be noisier than the later trannies with helical gears. Gears one, two & three usually got most of the work. Maybe you are just hearing the normal noise of the most worn gears.
