WC removing engine

My freind has a WC that has a bad ring gear and needs to be changed out. So I said that I could possible do this for him. so I have have a couple of questions about removing a WC engine to change the fly wheel ring gear. are there any hints or tricks on how to get the engine out of the trator? how big of a project is this? also how much would a shop cahrge to do this repair? Thank you Andrew

It makes the job easier if you disconnect the steering shaft at the u-joint, and slide the steering wheel back a few inches, as well as remove the cotter pin and support arm on the rear of the steering casting. No need to remove the casting or any side rails. Do remove the angle iron front engine support. I use a 2 inch channel with a center lifting ring, drilled to match the 4 bolts on the tappet cover, to attach to the hoist.

Hood, grill, radiator, and steering all have to come off to pull that engine. One man with the right tools can pull one in 2-3 hours. I did one last summer on my WC Speed Patrol and it was all that bad.
