Had all machine work done to my Allis G engine and took it to a rebuilder to have it assembled. I realize that a newly rebuilt engine will be a bit stiff but this one is frozen tight. It has been fogged with fogging oil in the cylinders on several occasions since being assembled and has been kept inside under canvas until I went to install it today. What is the way to overcome this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Before you touch that motor realize one thing. Rebulders frown upon engines coming back apart. Some will refuse to warrenty any motor that has been apart after leaving the shop. Now, if it has been sitting for several years they wont warrenty it anyway so have at it.

He should take it back to the guy that rebuilt it. (My Rebuilder) didnt shim my G engine crankshaft thrust washers correctly and when HE tightened the crankshaft pully stud to torque the engine would not turn over. (My Rebuilder) was made to make a new gasket for the timing gear cover and then (My Rebuilder) Had to learn that on those engines you must torque the crankshaft pully and check the thrust washers before you install the timing gear cover. Hee Hee (My Rebuilder) found it was normal to put on and remove the crankshaft pulley and crankshaft timing gear more than once if it is not shimed correctly the first time. (:^D I think you know my engine rebuilder.
He dont seem real bright.

I figgured when he said "rebuilder" he wus talken bout a real rebuilder, not one of them armitchers like yours that rebuilds with spray bombs. Did ya try spray'en yer G pulley with some WD-40 or blaster 'for ya tor it back down? maybe yer builder oughta stay with Ollies and B-125s?

As For WD 40 Butch in reply to Butch(OH), 01-04-2007 20:37:16
I think if I used somea the stuff in a little bottle my Wife keeps in her night stand I would be able to push those pulleys on and pull them off with my hands.

It sounds to me like the crankshaft thrust washers are not shimed correctly. Loosen the crankshaft pully center stud and pull the pully back a little. If that works then you can cut a small shim to put behind the pully rather than pull the engine down and re assemble. You can see if you can get .001 feeler gage under the thrust washer as it is now before you do anything else first. You will have to put the puller on the crankshaft timing gear to pull it back a speck it that is the problem.

A few questions before an answer. Did it turn over when you put it there?? How long has it sat since you turned it any?? Is there oil in the oil pan and did they use a good lube when they put it back togeather?? One of the worse thigs you can do to a rebuilt engine is let it sit for months with out haveing it full of oil and I do mean full, cylinders pan etc. Sitting like that it gets condensation in the cylinders and things then stick. If I where you I would fill the cylinders with tranny fluid, put the plugs back in then put a few qts of tranny fluid in the pan and roll the engine over, not the crank but the whole engine so the tranny fluid get all over the place in the engine. Give it a few day and try to spin the crank some, make sure the plugs are out and just turn it say half a turn and do that for a week or so. After that you should be able to install it and be good to go unless of course you couldn't turn it over right after it was rebuilt
