I am repaint my d-15 series 2 and removing the old paint is a bear. Got any suggestions on how to make this little less work? And what should I do to the bare metal, should it be treated before I prime it?

We use a 4in Electric Grinder with a braded wire brush in there insted of a stone works good any brush works but the braded one lasts longer

Gatz, That tractor sure is looking good, nice job on the primer and paint removal. I looked at a needle gun at HF today it was a real big one. I did not think it was small enought to get in to the smaller places on the tractor. I wonder if they make them in a smaller sizes. They had a good price on it $49.00. I know we used the gun to remove paint over at work and it did a good job. Anyhow your tractor is looking good.

try this site for smaller things AC.I did my sheet metal with this electrolist stuff here and it turned out great. he also makes a gravy ,he calls, for like wheels and stuff to take off thick coats of paint. you can go small or large with this system. actually kinda fun watching it brew. hope this works. its even non toxic Link Jeese that took me almost 5 minutes to sypher that one out. i'm going to try it also to make sure it works. i like that needle scaler thing you did on the drive and rear. Well look'in good. good luck. this only works when its warm or above freezing.

I had very good luck using a pneumatic needle scaler.
Did all my D17 Ser IV transmission, differential and torque tube with it.
Wear ear plugs and eye shield.

Put primer on it right after.

You can get a cheap import from places like Harbor Freight. Here's a picture of an Ingersol Rand unit.

Just guessing about time involved.... 3 or 4 sessions of about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
After a while, my arms got tired when I was laying on the creeper and working on the underside, which was the toughest part. 5 hp 60gal compressor barely kept up; so that was my excuse(s) for taking a break now and then.

Here's the rear end after priming. The drawbar pieces and the torsion bar tube were removed and done seperately
