It looks like the top support that supports the two hoods has a gasket that looks like lamp wick?
Is that what they used. This 160 cu in engine had cork in the rocker arm rails to plug up the ends one was missing the other was in place.

lamp wick works great if you wait for it to dry out that is what i use on all of mine speaking from experience baldwin here

Not really a gasket. It is to stop the two pieces of metal from chaffing and squeking. You will also find this stuff between the fuel tank and where it sits on many Allis tractors.
