I just got a D-17 that has no external snap rings in the grooves outside of the upper hydraulic arms to keep them on the shafts. The tractor has bungee cords between the arms to keep them on!? What look like the original rings are in the toolbox, but the ends are sort of pointed and do not have holes for snap ring pliars. Any suggestions as to how to put these suckers on? I have tried pretty hard, and succeeded in only producing bad language.
Any ideas where I can find regular snap rings that large, in case I can't get these on?
Thanks very much for any help.
Alan

That's what goes there....no eyes or tangs.
The tool designed for this is an expanding pliers with flats. Kinda like a duck-bill pliers only in reverse; some automotive stores have them.
Lacking that, you could use some small to medium sized vise-grips and grab the ends to spread them. A third hand would be most helpful.
Once they're started over the end of the splined shaft, it's easy to work them to the groove.
